Global call to ban the use of peat in compost - National Trusts' joint statement

During COP26, The National Trust teamed up with National Trusts from around the world to call for an urgent ban on the use of peat in compost. Organisations from Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Falklands, Guernsey, Indonesia and Jersey are among those calling for the ban to help tackle the nature and climate crises.

New report shows peat-free opportunity for horticulture industry

Garden Organic are pleased to be featured in a new report published by the IUCN UK Peatland Programme showcasing successes in peat-free horticulture. 'Peat-free Horticulture – Demonstrating Success' is now the third publication in the series and was launched as part of the UNFCCC COP26 Peatland Pavilion in November 2021.

Garden Organic welcomes England Peat Action Plan as a step in the right direction

Launched on Tuesday 18th May, the plan includes a statement that Defra is proposing to ban peat in bagged composts by the end of 2024, after decades of campaigning by organisations including Garden Organic.
