The government has launched a public consultation on ‘Ending the retail sale of peat in horticulture in England and Wales.' This is an important step in the banning of peat from growing compost mixes, as well as from the millions of plants that are sold in peat mixes. Global call to ban the use of peat in compost - National Trusts' joint statement

During COP26, The National Trust teamed up with National Trusts from around the world to call for an urgent ban on the use of peat in compost. Organisations from Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Falklands, Guernsey, Indonesia and Jersey are among those calling for the ban to help tackle the nature and climate crises.

'Peat-free Horticulture – Demonstrating Success' is now the third publication in the series and was launched as part of the UNFCCC COP26 Peatland Pavilion in November 2021.
